Biosecurity

Why worry about biosecurity on your operation?
Biosecurity is the implementation of procedures and practices on your farm operation that help prevent the introduction and spread of disease within your farm and to neighboring operations. Good biosecurity will help prevent the spread of disease within a farm facility and between different locations.
The first step is creating and implementing a daily biosecurity plan. This routine reduces the risk of disease and can help avoid costly treatment and production losses. Once you have a daily biosecurity plan in place, the next step is to create a Secure Beef Supply plan.
Having these plans in place in the event of a quarantine situation will allow your operation quicker access to permits necessary to maintain continuity of business to be able to move your animals and products.

Pennsylvania is among states implementing premise ID on a voluntary basis. Premises identification allows the Commonwealth to communicate disease outbreak information to producers. However, a premise ID number is required for your biosecurity plan.
